CSSA Presentation: End Child Poverty in Australia Campaign.

The End Child Poverty in Australia Campaign, led by the Valuing Children Initiative (VCI), is a national movement calling for federal government legislation to eradicate child poverty across the country. The campaign urges for the inclusion of children’s wellbeing as a central priority within the Measuring What Matters national wellbeing framework.

At the CSSA National Conference: Hope in Action, VCI’s Sarah Quinton and Adjunct Professor Tony Pietropiccolo AM presented the powerful case for ending child poverty in Australia. Their presentation covered several key areas, including:

  • Rationale: The ongoing issue of child poverty in Australia is an urgent challenge that requires a systemic and long-term response. There is a need to shift focus towards the holistic wellbeing of children to ensure that they are given every opportunity to succeed. SEE HERE

  • History: The End Child Poverty Campaign has been building momentum as an advocacy initiative, and it has already gained significant support from various sectors, including community organisations, policymakers, and child welfare advocates. SEE HERE

  • Current Status: The campaign is continuing to gain traction, with growing awareness of the issue and increased collaboration between individuals and organisations working towards the same goal.

  • Objectives: The ultimate objective of the campaign is to see federal legislation passed that addresses child poverty in a comprehensive and sustainable manner, ensuring that all children are given the necessary support for a healthy and prosperous life.

Sarah and Tony also emphasised the importance of collaboration and collective action. They invited both individuals and organisations to join the campaign in advocating for policy change, raising awareness, and contributing to a future where no child in Australia grows up in poverty.

The End Child Poverty campaign is not just about raising awareness—it's about action. By bringing together a network of passionate individuals, organisations, and communities, we can ensure that child poverty is not only addressed but legislated out of existence.

Sarah and Tony are finalising their presentation and will provide it in a PowerPoint format as soon as practicable. This presentation will be a valuable tool for those interested in learning more about the campaign and getting involved in this vital movement.

Let’s work together to legislate an end to child poverty and ensure that every child in Australia has the opportunity to thrive.
